Labour Economics and Industrial Relations
General Description

Brief History
The Institute of Social Sciences, one of the four institutes under Bursa Uludağ University, was established in 1982 and has been conducting master´s and doctoral programs since the 1982-1983 academic year. The Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations within the institute comprises four branches:
- Labour Economics,
- Labour and Social Security Law,
- Management and Labour Sociology,
- Management and Labour Psychology.
Within the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, there are two master´s programs: the Thesis Master´s Program in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, and the Thesis Master´s Program in Work Psychology and Human Resources. At the doctoral level, there is a single program: the Ph.D. Program in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations.

Qualification Awarded
According to Turkish Council of Higher Education, Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations is subject to 180-240 ECTS in PhD Programme. After one of these programmes are completed successfully and program’s qualifications are met PhD degree are achieved in the field of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations.

Specific Admission Requirements
To apply for the Ph.D. Program in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, candidates must: - Hold a bachelor´s degree in Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, or Law and have completed a master´s degree in the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations (including programs such as Labour Psychology and Human Resources, Social Policy, Labour and Social Security Law, and Human Resources Management within the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations). - Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their master´s program. - Obtain a minimum score of 55 (equivalent weight) in the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) within the last three years. - Achieve a minimum score in one of the following exams: KPDS, ÜDS, or TOEFL IBT (at least 55), TOEFL CBT (at least 134), TOEFL PBT (at least 453). - Foreign students, excluding those educated in Turkey, must have a Turkish Proficiency Certificate. Candidates wishing to take the Ph.D. entrance exams must apply electronically with the required documents within the application and registration dates announced on the university´s website. In the admission to Ph.D. programs, the evaluation is based on the ALES score (50%), master´s GPA (15%), foreign language proficiency score (15%), and written/interview exam result (20%). Candidates who score at least seventy (70) points in this evaluation are ranked, and the number of students admitted is equal to the announced quota.

Specific arrangements for the recognition of prior learning
The provisions in “Regulation on Transfer among Associate and Undergraduate Degree Programs, Double Major, and Subspecialty and the Principals of Credit Transfer among Institutions in Higher Education Institutions” are applied.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations
For students accepted into the Ph.D. program with a thesis-based master´s degree, successful completion of a minimum of 240 ECTS credits is required for graduation. This credit load, for one academic year, must consist of no less than 60 ECTS credits during the course stage, including a minimum of eight courses and seminars. The remaining load is to be obtained through seminars, a qualifying exam, and thesis work after the course stage.

PhD Programme of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations has aimed to reach universal and contemporary arguments about social policy area through inter-disciplinary perspective.

8. To analyze current political and economic developments in context of conceptual and thoroughly levels.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates With Examples
People who graduated from Sub-Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations keeping hold of PhD degree should be employment in some positions at Ministry of Labour and Social Security and dependent institutions and human resources specialist position at human resources service in company at private sector, too.

Access to Further Studies
Graduates, upon meeting the necessary conditions, may be eligible for admission to postdoctoral programs abroad.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading
- PhD Programme: In order for a student to be able to register for the courses at the beginning of the term and to take the final examination, she/he has to attend at least 70% of the classes. Students are made to take at least one final examination for each of the courses during a semester. All exams are scored on the scale of 100 and students have to get a score that is min. 75. A student is successful if she/he receives AA, BA, BB, CB and CC as the letter grade from a class.

Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete the program, students are required to pass all the courses in the program (equivalent to 180-240 ECTS credits), pass the qualifying exam, publish an article in a peer-reviewed journal, and successfully complete their thesis.
