19 Objective of the Course: To teach diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention techniques of the protozoon infections of human, cattle, sheep, goat, dog, cat, pig and poultry.

1 How to identify protozoon species;
2 Diagnostic techniques and differential diagnosis of the protozoon infections;
3 Evaluation of the prognosis and prescription patterns to treat the protozoon infections;
4 How protozoon infections can be taken under control;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Morphology, physiology and taxonomy of protozoon parasites VCD of reproduction and movement in protozoans
2 Entamoeba, Naegleria and Acanthomoeba infections Examination of Entamoeba in human faeces
3 Giardia, Hexamita and Histomonas infections Examination of Giardia in human and dog faeces
4 Trichomonidida infections Inspection of Trichomomas foetus slides and examination of T. gallinae from an infected pigeon, if possible
5 Leishmaniosis Inspection of Leishmaniosis slides
6 Trypanasomiasis Inspection of Trypanasomiasis slides and its examination in cattle blood
7 Eimeriosis Inspection of Eimeriosis and examination in poultry, rabbit and cattle faeces; VCD of Eimeria tenella’s evolution in cell culture
8 Isosporiosis Examination of Isospora in dog and cat faeces
9 Sarcocystiosis Examination of Sarcocystis in sheep meat and criteria used in decision for human consumption
10 Toxoplasmosis, Neosporiosis Inspection of Toxoplasma slides and its diagnose on a positive case via IFAT
11 Cryptosporidium, Besnoitia, Hammondia and Hepatozoon infections Examination of Cryptosporidium in calve faeces
12 Theilerosis Examination of Theilerosis in cattle blood and inspection of slides
13 Babesiosis Examination of Babesiosis in sheep blood and inspection of slides
14 Plasmodium, Leucocytozoon and Haemoproteus infections Examination of Haemoproteus from pigeon blood
