19 Objective of the Course: The aim of this course is to introduce the student to societies and their cultures, concentrating on ancient civilizations, from the beginnings to the 13th Century. Social, economical, political, and religious institutions will be examined within an historic context.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development Students taking the course will get to know societies and cultures, especially ancient civilizations until the 13th century.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Be able to define the concept of Civilization;
2 Understanding the Neolithic revolution and the first civilizations;
3 To understand the contributions of Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations to world civilization;
4 To gain the ability to classify the letters, languages and alphabets used by civilizations;
5 Be able to analyze the effects of the Roman law to present day.;
6 Be able to find, organize and assess the primary and secondary sources of the History of the Civilizations.;
7 Be able to comprehend American civilizations as Inca, Aztec and Maya;
8 Be able to analyze Chinese and Indian civilizations.;
9 Define the origins of the modern Western Civilizations.;
10 Be able to examine the historical events in an objective viewpoint.;

7 Foundations of Western civilization: the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations
8 Forms of Government in Ancient Greece. Emergence of Democracy
9 Ancient Greek philosophers
10 Roman law and its effects
11 Ancient Civilizations of the Far East: China
12 Ancient Civilizations of the Far East: India
13 American Civilizations: Incas, Aztecs and Mayans
