19 Objective of the Course: To become students qualified theoretically about neonatal diseases of equide. To diagnose this diseases with the evaluating of laboratory parameters, make the differential diagnosis and to learn the treatment methods. To provide knowledge about preventive medicine
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development Students can diagnose and treath neonatal dieases of foals.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 The student learns specific diseases of neonate ;
2 The student learns specific diseases of this system of horses in our country ;
3 The student learns to determine differential diagnosis with clinical and laboratory findings of the diseases of horses ;
4 The student learns to determine prophylactic methods for preventing from diseases;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Importance of Neonatal diseases; First Examination of the New Born
2 Phsyological, clinical and laboratory parameters of new born, supportive care of new born after abnormal delivery
3 Neonatal neurological examination and selected disorders
4 Perinatal asphxia syndrome, Prematurity, Dysmaturity and Postmaturity
5 Sepsis, Nutritional muscular dystrophy (White muscle disease)
6 Hepatic diseases of foals (Portosystemic shunts,Tyzzer’s disease, Cholangiohepatitis, Glycogen Branching Enzyme Deficiency)
7 Passive immunity, Failure of passive transfer
8 Neonatal isoerythrolysis, Immune- mediated thrombocytopenia and neutropenia
9 Diseases of the respiratory tract (respiratory distress, Respiratory diseases associated with hypoxemia in the neonate, Bacterial pneumonia)
10 Viral pneumonia, Other causes of respiratory signs in foals
11 Diseases of urinary tract (Uroperitoneum, Acute renal failure, Congenital Renal Disease and Umbilical disorders)
12 Diseases of the Gastrointestinal Tract (Colic in the neonate, Obstruction, Meconium retention and impaction, Congenital defects, Lethal white syndrome, Necrotizing enterocolitis and Gastric ulcers)
13 Diarrheal diseases of foals ( Bacteriall, Viral, Protozoal and Parasitic diarrhea)
