19 Objective of the Course: This course aims to provide students with an understanding of the development, key features, and significant monuments of Turkish-Islamic architecture.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development Students will explore the aesthetic, functional, and symbolic aspects of Turkish-Islamic architecture and develop the ability to analyze its impact on modern architectural practices.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Students will be able to trace the evolution of Turkish-Islamic architecture, identifying key periods, styles, and influences that shaped the architectural landscape;
2 Students will critically analyze the defining features of Turkish-Islamic architectural design, including the use of domes, minarets, courtyards, and decoration, and understand their cultural and religious significance.;
3 Students will explore how Turkish-Islamic architectural traditions have influenced contemporary architectural practices and urban planning, with an emphasis on design principles and cultural heritage preservation.;

2 Islamic Architecture and Early Turkish-Islamic Architecture Foundations • The emergence of Islamic architecture and early examples • Seljuk period and early Turkish-Islamic structures • The influence of Islam on architecture
3 Seljuk Architecture and Structural Features • Main characteristics of Seljuk architecture • Key structures: Mosques, madrasas, and caravanserais • Decorative elements in Seljuk architecture
4 Ottoman Empire’s Architectural Understanding and Early Period Structures • Early Ottoman architecture and its architectural heritage • First Ottoman mosques and complexes • Architectural characteristics of early Ottoman buildings
5 Mosque and Complex Architecture • The development and function of the mosque structure • The concept of the complex (külliye) and its components • Famous Ottoman mosques and architects (e.g., Mimar Sinan)
