19 Objective of the Course: Conveying information to the students about the preliminary provisions, basic principles and fundamental terms of Turkish Civil Code, Law of Persons and Family Law.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The student will have information about the limits of her/his rights and responsibilities by learning the basic concepts and knowledge of civil law.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 At the end of this course, the students will be able to list and explain the preliminary provisions in Turkish Civil Code understanding their importance,;
2 List and reveal the basic principles and fundamental terms of Civil Law,;
3 Interpret and apply general principles of rights and law of persons, ;
4 Distinguish and compare natural and artificial persons and their characteristics,;
5 Interpret engagement and dissolution of engagement in compliance with the relevant provisions of Turkish Civil Code,;
6 Define the notions of marriage and divorce and list their conditions and consequences,;
7 Make case studies and demonstrate theorical knowledge in practice,;
8 Have the capacity to analyse and resolve conflicts in the area of Civil Law and Family Law,;
9 Acknowledge, comment and criticize various theories and court decisions in Civil Law and Family Law.;

1 Meaning, subject and enforcement sources of Civil Law
2 Notion of right, different types of rights and right owner
3 Acquisition and forfeiture of rights, good faith (bona fides), fair dealing principle and prohibition against the abuse of right
4 Notion of person, inception (beginning) and termination of personality, capables-incapables-limited capables-limited incapables
5 Personal rights, protection of a person, name of a person, affinity and place of residence
6 Notion of artificial personnality, associations and foundations
7 Introduction to Family Law and engagement (Midterm Exam)
8 Marriage and divorce
9 Regulation for conjugal community
10 Action for divorce and the court decision
11 General provisions of marital property law
12 Joining to acquired property regime and optional property regimes
13 Establishment and the general provisions of paternity
14 Law of guardianship
