19 Objective of the Course: It is aimed to introduce students with the scientific study of Psychology and its various branches. It is aimed to make it possible for students to understand the historical roots of psychology, and basic research methods in psychology. Also, students are provided with theoretical and methodological information about special topics of psychology (Physiology and Behavior, Sensation and Perception, Altering States of Consciousness, Learning, Cognitive Abilities…etc). In doing so, students are aimed to gain a general idea about the vision of psychology as a science ad to be able to grasp terms and concepts in some sub-disciplines of Psychology.

2 PSYCHOLOG AS A SCIENCE (continues) The effects of gender, race and culture in research, ethics in Psychology
3 PSYCHOLOG AS A SCIENCE (continues) Historical development of Psychology as a science
4 PHYSIOLOGY and BEHAVIOR Neurons, central nervous system and peripheral nervous system
5 PERCEPTION and COGNITION The nature of perceptual processes; seeing, hearing and the other senses
6 PERCEPTION and COGNITION (continues) Perceptual organizations, perceptual constancy, observer characteristics, depth perception, perceptual illusions
7 ALTERING STATES of CONSCIOUSNESS Natural alterations in consciousness (day-dreaming and fantasies, sleeping and dreams) and artificial alterations in consciousness (mediation and hypnoses)
8 LEARNING Classical and operant conditioning and comparisons of them
9 MEMORY How are visual and auditory information registered to a memory? What are short and long term memory? How do coding, storing and recalling processes work in those memories? What is autobiographical memory?
