19 Objective of the Course: To coincide with the vocational education the student received; To introduce the distinctive characteristics of different civilizations from the historical process to the present.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development To comprehend the culture and art understanding of the civilizations that reign in Anatolia and the nearby geography and their reflections on Turkish tile and ceramic art.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To have knowledge about the cultures, life styles and art perceptions of the first human societies.;
2 To have knowledge about Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egyptian Civilizations.;
3 To have knowledge about Ancient Anatolian History and Civilizations.;
4 To have knowledge about Ancient Greek and Roman Civilizations.;
5 To have knowledge about Medieval and New Age European History and Civilization.;
6 To have knowledge about Ottoman History and Civilization.;
7 To be able to interpret current political and social developments in historical context.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Introducing the course process and resources. Introduction, basic concepts. The terms culture, civilization, civilization, relationships and differences between them. History, Age and Prehistory terms. Paleolithic and Mesolithic period civilizations.
2 Neolithic Period and Industrial Revolution. Early settled life characteristics, formation and development of professions. Early examples of village-city formation.
3 Chalcolithic Age and the concept of State. Early examples of village-city states, development of defense systems. Urban designs belonging to different civilizations. The course of civilizations during the Copper, Bronze and Iron ages.
4 Civilization characteristics of Ancient Egyptian, Near Eastern and Mesopotamian societies.
5 Ancient Crete, Eastern Mediterranean and Hellenistic civilization.
6 Ancient Anatolian Civilizations.
7 Roman civilization. Social movements seen at the end of the First Age and civilizational interactions of medieval societies.
8 The birth of Christianity, its spread and its effect on civilizations. Byzantine civilization.
9 The early periods of Turkish societies in Central Asia and the social changes they went through until they came to Anatolia.
10 Seljuk and Ottoman Civilizations.
11 Renaissance and the birth of European nation-states. The effects of technological developments on the course of civilizations.
12 18th and 19th century European civilization. The effect of the French Revolution on societies, the industrial revolution.
13 Relationship and interactions between civilizations in the 20th century.
14 The social, political and economic stages our society has gone through since the proclamation of the Republic. Civilization and the phenomenon of globalization in the 21st century.
