19 Objective of the Course: Provides for the formation of a maritime awareness in our country surrounded by seas on three sides by the Ottoman Empire became a great empire, the importance of the Process of shipping and marine policies; these historical developments, taking into account the emergence of new ideas to solve the problems of today's incidents to understand and supply the basic goal.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Turkish Maritime developmental phases of the nineteenth century onwards. ;
2 European and Turkish marine technology.;
3 19. century, the Turkish maritime reforms and the functioning of the system;
4 Last term the Turkish sailors and naval historians.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 History of world maritime, history of Europe
2 The importance given to the Turkish maritime. The arrival of Turks in Anatolia and the first maritime activities.
3 Çaka Bey, Byzantine and Turkish Shipping.
4 Anatolian Principalities and Seljuk Turks in the Era of seafaring, maritime activities and the process established Aydınoğlu Umur Bey and shipyards.
5 Maritime activities in the establishment phase of the Ottoman Empire, the classical period, the administrative organization, and the newly established shipyards in the shipbuilding activities.
6 Venetian and Genoese struggle and technological developments in the maritime area of the Ottoman Empire, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, and marine policies.
7 During the reign of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent of the Ottoman shipping.
8 REVIEW and MIDTERM EXAM
9 Barbarossa Hayrettin Pasha and the Ottoman state organization of the sea.
10 Central and provincial organization of the Turkish maritime Classical period. Classical works of the period of Turkish history and marine historians.
11 During a pause, and the reforms of Turkish maritime industry.

13 Sultan Selim III, the founder of modern Turkish maritime sector. Selim's reforms, the navy. Nizam-i Jadid in the process of foreign experts in the Turkish Navy, in Istanbul and the provincial state of machine tools, construction of galleons.
