19 Objective of the Course: To teach significant subjects of Orthopedics and Traumatology, to describe diseases, to inform about clinical findings,diagnosis, differential diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of these diseases at practitioner’s level and to transform the knowledge into the skill.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development Learn the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedics and traumatology diseases in detail.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 Approaching to traumatic patient from point of examination, diagnosis and treatment. ;
2 To perform an orthopedic examination.;
3 Identification of diseases in the content of ” Orthopedics and Traumatology”.;
4 Treatment methods in early and delayed period in “Orthopedics and Traumatology” patient’s.;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Explanation of the course. The description and content of “Orthopedics and Traumatology”. Explanations about bones and joints on animal skeleton
2 Orthopedic diseases of the bone tissue. General examination of trauma patient
3 Trauma Orthopedic examination
4 Examination of trauma patient, Orthopedic examination Examination of fractures
5 Fracture: Definition, aetiology and classification of fractures Evaluation of radiological findings of fractures
6 Clinical appearances, diagnosis and prognosis of fractures, Fracture healing Preparation of PVC splint
7 Fracture treatment: Conservative management Simple bandage applications for conservative management
8 Fracture treatment: Operative management (applied by pins) Cast bandage application
9 Fracture treatment: Operative management (applied by plate and screws) Thomas splint application
10 Fracture treatment in forelimb and hindlimb fractures (according to anatomical location of fracture) Internal fixation with different medullary pin
11 Fracture and fracture treatment in young (immature) animals Internal fixation with plate and screws
12 Callus complications in fractures Cerclage wire application
13 Luxation Examination and treatment techniques in luxations
14 Open fractures-Osteomyelitis Fracture healing and callus complications (on radiographical appearances of cases)
