19 Objective of the Course: 1-To convey general information about both Middle Eastern history and the civilizations and the religions emerged in this region from prehistoric period to early 20th century. 2- To take into account the history of Middle East, the main context of this course, from 18th century to 20th century in detailed. 3- To inform students about the politics of the states founded in the Middle East and the alliances established among these states. 4- To teach important notions peculiar to the Middle East and to provide the use of these notions in current history.

21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to be informed about the history of Middle East.;
2 To be able to learn cultural and political structure peculiar to the Middle East. ;
3 To be able to realize the cultural and political atmosphere in the Middle East which is influential in Turkish history.;
4 To be able to analyze the political situation of the states founded in the Middle East.;
5 To be able to possess the ability of reaching the historical sources and scientific publications.;
6 To be able to have the ability required for using historical sources.;
7 To be able to gain the ability of judgment.;
8 To be able to consider the interaction of time and space. ;

3 The beginning of Turkish presence in the Middle East
4 The invasion of the Middle East by Ottomans
5 The governance of the Middle East in the Ottoman Period
6 The transformation process in the 19th century Middle East.
7 The sharing of Middle East prior to World War I and subsequent developments
8 Midterm exam and evaluation of course
9 Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Lebanon
10 Israel and Zionism
11 Iran and Iraq
12 The countries in the Persian Gulf, Jordan and Yemen
13 Turkey
14 The petrol, the instability in the Middle East and terrorism
