19	Objective of the Course:	The objective of this course, in the context of music theory and ear training studies, is to equip students with the ability to perceive and identify polyphonic textures; the ability to perform horizontal and vertical dictation; the ability to identify rhythmic structures; the ability to perform advanced analysis and deciphering and the ability to sight-read and dictate musical notation all backed with theoretical knowledge. In addition, students are expected to develop sufficient knowledge of methods and techniques for teaching in ear training.
20	Contribution of the Course to Professional Development

Learning Outcomes:

1	To understand 20th century music and atonality. To undertake appropriate reading, dictating, analysis and composing exercises on this theme.;
2	To be able to dictate with two, three and four voices.;
3	To understand contemporary movements in popular music and to understand chord ciphers and applications in this genre.;
4	To accompany solfege with the piano.;
5	To perform advanced studies in solfege, dictation and polyrhythmic textures.;
6	To improve deciphering abilities. To analyze melodies with respect to their form and compose melodies of similar form. ;
7	To understand 12-tone music and to apply methods for composing 12-tone music.;
8	To be knowledable in the quad-harmonic system of Turkish music and to create applications for ear training.;
9	To know teaching methods and techniques for ear training and sight-reading.;
10	To be aware of ear training software and to know how to use them.;

1	Objectives of the course, resources. Pre-evaluation for the level of readiness.
2	Music in the 20th century and significant movements, style characteristics of the period. Analysis, dictation and composition of similar melodies.
3	Atonal musics. Listening, analysis and application.
4	Diminished, augmented, seventh and ninth chords.
5	Quad-harmonic system of Turkish music. Method and process analysis.
6	Contemporary popular music movements and chord ciphers used in these musics.
7	Solfege accompaniment with the piano – analysis.
8	Studies in inharmonique scales. Chromatic scales, whole-pitch scales and modulation.
9	12-tone music and constructing scales, methods of composition.
10	Dictating and accompanying solfege.
11	Studies in modal music.
12	Polyrhythmic studies.
13	Methods and techniques for teaching ear training, sight-reading and dictation.
14	Software for developing ear training abilities. Their usage and examples.
