19 Objective of the Course: To be able to sing, analyse anal dictate the selected pieces considering their musical properties.
20 Contribution of the Course to Professional Development The students gains the skills of reading scores, musical analysing and singing or writing the scores of melodies heard.
21 Learning Outcomes:
1 To be able to practice terms of tempo, loudness and expression while singing solfeges (pieces); ;
2 To be able to recognize various structures of beat units used at different types of meter.; ;
3 To be able to identify the chord inversions, tonal positions and resolutions and symbolize them.; ;
4 To be able to indicate modulations in the pieces dictated by defining the modulation concept.; ;
5 To be able to use the cumulative knowledge of music theory gained while dictating the homophonic and polyphonic melodies heard.; ;
6 To be able to define mode and modality concepts and recognize various modes; ;
7 To be able to read the melodies written in F clef and G clef including the knowledge gained in music theory.; ;
8 To be able to sight-read the melodies including the knowledge gained in music theory.; ;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Concept of mode, structure of modes, antique Anatolian modes (dor, phyrig, lyd)
2 Structure of modes, antique Anatolian modes (dor, phyrig, lyd) and sample pieces.
3 Rhythms formed by different divisions of beat units in simple and compound meters, unequal beats.
4 Different uses of antique Anatolian modes (dor, phyrig, lyd) and sample pieces.
5 Medieval modes (dorian, phrygian and lydian), samples from the repertoire
6 Singing and dictating pieces written in different modes and simple, compound and unequal beats.
7 Singing pieces written in F clef on the 3rd line of the stave.
8 Singing and dictating pieces written in several modes - Mıdterm exam -
9 Pieces written in F clef on the 3th line of the stave.
10 Concept of atonality, pieces selected from the repertoire.
11 Rhythms formed by different divisions of beat units in simple, compound and unequal meters,
12 Dominant 7th and 9th chords and their symbols
13 Symbols of musical form, structure of the pieces being sung.
14 Formal analyzing of the pieces selected among the repertoire.

Measurement and Evaluation Techniques Used in the Course Dictation, solfege reading and analysing, sight singing, assignment.
Information Evaluation; is done by performing intonation, phrasing and musical expression, structural/formal analysing of the solfeges voiced, dictation of the melodies played and deciphering.
