19 Objective of the Course: To give the knowledge on the spread, development, diagnosis and principles for control of diseases on the herd basis, vaccines and vaccination policies.

1 To gain productive and economic breeding and management;
2 To gain relationship between herd health and nutrition;
3 To gain effect of nutrition on reproduction and preventive methods on this subject;
4 To gain fertility management for productive and economic herd;

6 Protection of the herd diseases;
7 To gain economic significance and size of diseases;
8 To evaluate relationship between diseases and production;
22 Course Content:
Week Theoretical Practical
1 Aims and programs of herd health and management, principles, management of dairy farm, systematic strategies, economic targets, loses, relationship between production and health, goals in management
2 Effects of animal housing system to behaviour and diseases, adaptation to environment, decision making on effective herd management, important points in choosing breeding animals for herd health and management
3 General herd management from birth to selection, annual plan, evaluation of registration (keeping registration, electronics registration and package programmes)
4 Problems and solving paths on calf rearing, management plan for prevention of losses, significance of dry period on herd health and management, preventions for healthy lactation
5 The effects of Animal Nutrition on heard Health. The relationship between nutrition and heard health. The effects of feed hygiene on heard health. Pathogenic microorganisms and toxins and their harmful effects on feed
6 Methods of examination of nutritional status in cattle: stool examination, ration controls, monitoring of energy balance. Transition period nutrition in dairy cattle and its effects on health. Effects of transitional feeding on fertility. Managing of rumen health
7 Measuring reproductive efficiency in herds
8 Scoring system for diagnosis of infertility and udder health associated problems
9 Problem solving approaches, prophylactic measures and monitoring methods in herd with high somatic cell counts and clinical mastitis incidence
10 The effects of infectious diseases on herd health Etiology of infertility and reproductive problems in herds The choose of diagnostic methods for diagnosing infections on the herd basis
